Emergency Help
The Franciscan Connection began in 1991 as an outreach effort of the Franciscan Friars of the Sacred Heart Province. Over the years, friars and volunteers have been able to provide emergency help to single mothers, under-employed men, and the frail elderly of the community.

Our services
Utility assistance
School supplies
A little financial assistance on a high utility bill could often save a homebound senior citizen from another night without electricity or heat; |
School supplies and new shoes could ready a young child for that first day back in the classroom;
or a Christmas basket could brighten a family’s whole holiday.
In addition, the friars offer one-on-one support to those who come to their door, leading them on to other area resources and encouraging them in their pursuit to become self-sufficient.
The vast majority of our families are African-American households headed by a single mother or elderly widow. The center is serving a growing number of Afghani, Bosnian, Hispanic and other recent immigrants who now live in South St. Louis city.
All are low-income -- surviving on Temporary Assistance to Needy Families, Social Security, disability, and/or entry-level wages. Each individual is served regardless of creed, color or national origin.
